Eiland Galerij Niek Welboren

Eiland Galerij Niek Welboren is a unique art space on Texel, created in 1978 within a former 1912 village school. Artist Niek Welboren transformed the historic building into the island’s longest-running exhibition space, preserving its original features while adding a creative touch. Inside, his large-scale paintings—inspired by water, sand, and wind—share the space with Kerstin Edelmann’s ceramic sculptures, shaped by coastal forms and spirals. Outside, a sculpture garden showcases her weather-resistant stoneware amid flora and a pond.

The gallery also features a historical classroom display and a permanent collection of Welboren’s earlier works. A striking tufstone statue by Paaseiland sculptor Bene Aukara Tuki Pate marks the entrance. Open from spring to autumn, Wednesday to Sunday 10:30-17:00 (Friday varies by holiday periods).
