De Nederlanden

De Nederlanden is a young dune area on Texel where a small dyke blocks saltwater from De Slufter, allowing the landscape to transform over time. Once agricultural land, the area was restored in 2008 by removing fertile topsoil and reshaping drainage into a winding creek with sloping banks. Today, its steep dunes and bird-rich meadows host Galloway cattle and sheep, with no artificial fertiliser used.

A 4-kilometre blue-marked walking route starts at the car park near strandpaal 21, winding through De Nederlanden and De Muy. Climb the Bertusnol dune for striking views, or visit the Hopman sheep shed, a popular wedding venue. Dogs on leads are welcome, and cycling is permitted on the wide path to De Slufter.
